do u ever walk through an almost empty city at night with a cup of hot tea you got at a grocery store and enjoy the wonderful fog of a too-warm winter night? it's oddly silent, only a single bus passing by despite it being holiday season in a decently sized city. the air smells slightly of the unfrozen sea, salty and musky with the slight aroma of seaweed, although nowhere as prominent as it would be in the summer. christmas lights twinkle and adorn many a tree, but the people who hung them up knew how to keep things tasteful, sparse. it works better that way, a single tree with lights strung up between its leafless branches, each surrounded by a little halo in the fog. the fountain in the park is still filled with half-molten piles of snow, and a brittle sheet of ice still covers a part of the walkway. but you don't care, because it's a lovely night, you have the lovely cup of tea, and the pleasant company of yourself
