The idea that federation solves these issues is also a little optimistic I think... Ultimately it ends up looking a lot like anything social adjacent on the internets either exists as a stonks numbers game, or ends up existing due to a handful of rich people keeping it running for personal reasons.
It's amazing when you consider how cursed the website world is even compared to games, which even at small scales you can at least sell to people for money. Well, I guess it's just like running a low volume MMO or MP game.
