I think it bears repeating that unfollowing people is not bad. I really really hate it when people develop expectations of obligatory following, or follow-back, especially on sites with no mute button like Cohost or Tumblr.
Being able to control what you see on your social media feed, for any reason, with no required justification, is like most basic level of online boundary-setting for mental health, and when you tamper with that, bad things will follow.
some years ago on Twitter we realized that our public account and private account were functionally being run by different headmates and we proceeded to block each other. best thing that ever happened to my mental health
