Keeping track of comic books I read

  • he/him

I'm just experimenting with a sort of journal where I keep track of the comic books I've been reading. I won't promise any insights - and we'll see how this goes. Comments and suggestions welcome, but keep it friendly.

So this volume, still solidly feeling like a Jodorowsky-setting story, starts off kinda "oh, another lots of violence story" but then it gets a lot more interesting. And it sort of spans a lot of time and is strangely, and unexpectedly, a love story with a cool ending. So, at this point I'm pretty interested in whatever comes out in this series - assuming it's a series? I haven't been bothered to look.

There's also some really neat ideas... space ghosts? Check! ;-)

I'm not sure if it would appear to someone not familiar with The Incal and all that, but I think it would appeal/seem interesting? It doesn't really rely on earlier knowledge...

I really enjoyed The Incal, and also Metabarons, and bunch of other Jodorowsky stuff. So, I was kind of surprised when I saw this on a shelf (with two more books as well)!

Was this a prequel? re-telling? something different? I had no idea, but the fact that it was Difool on the cover made me curious and also suspicious.

Now, I haven't read The Incal in quite a few years at this point (reminder: read it again!), so as I'm reading this I start to wonder - wait, is this like a "remake" of Incal? Oh, there's the Metabaron - but, he's not quite a "star" in the original Incal...from what I remember, so what's going on? When is this story set? (I still don't know, but that's ok) It feels best to think of it as a sort of alternate universe Incal story...

All of this to say, it was fun, I enjoyed it, glad I read it, would read again, and Yay! Because, it felt like a legit Jodorowsky-universe book. And yes, the art is not Moebius - but it is still great and I really enjoyed it.
