Dating app developer Kim Sum falls for serial killer Seong Yun-O, who uses her app to find lonely women and tell them exactly want they want to hear. One of these women is Kim Sum's estranged friend, a police officer. For some unfathomable reason, Yun-O lets her live, and while he and Kim Sum get closer, police girl and another friend start to investigate.
This one's a bit of a mess. I liked it.
Mild spoilers below the cut.
Enjoyment requires you to look past some dating app scare mongering, people acting extremely stupid, outdated terminology (Kim Sum's condition is referred to as Asperger's and treated as something separate from Autism; I'm not going to comment on the portrayal itself here), and the torture of a very unrealistic looking CGI cat.
That said, I've always had a soft spot for schlocky psychological thrillers, and I very much appreciate that Somebody tries to bring some eroticism back into the genre. It's too tame to count as a bona-fide erotic thriller, but some steps in that direction were made, including the acknowledgement that yes, disabled people do fuck (wheelchair user, in this case). Unfortunately they're too chicken to show the lesbian character fucking and leave that fade-to-black, but at least she survives. That's something, I guess.
The visual presentation of the dating app chats is about as unoriginal as it can get, otherwise the direction is fine, with a general idea how to use lighting for dramatic effect and lots of thought put into set design choices.
There are worse ways to waste your time.
