I didn’t plan on doing a post like this anytime soon (or to generally post on Cohost again so soon since I barely have any friends who are on here (mostly because of questionable Q&A things from the staff team - sorry)), but oh well, here we are. You’re about to hear my subjective opinion on where social media is heading and why I deem some platforms to be straight up terrible, so uh, either leave (if you can’t handle 4am me ranting about stuff) or buckle up! :3
(this post might get weird along the way but that‘s just how very late night posts by me are!)
let’s begin with Twitter ig
so, let’s begin with the biggest (as far as I’m concerned) and worst social media (micro-)blogging platform that isn’t owned by Facebook/Meta.
It’s just going very much downhill ever since Musk bought it, and I don’t think it’ll get better anytime soon. It’d rather get much, MUCH worse, hence why I’m barely on there anymore.
(that‘s also why this paragraph is so short - there‘s not much to talk about but if you wanna know more, just visit Twitter Is Going Great!)
Tumblr
oh god, where do I start with this platform…
I registered for an account there AGES ago and somehow, that account still exists - but because, idk, I didn‘t need it for at least 6 months, and therefore barely was on Tumblr, they decided to shadowban me what I just noticed literally 5 hours ago when researching why the fuck I couldn‘t reply to posts and just got either a very vague error message, or literally NOTHING in response from the server. I even assumed it was my WiFi (when troubleshooting why I couldn‘t reply to posts)!
I just wanna sillypost (especially since maia arson crimew got suspended from Twitter and now is just on Tumblr and Fedi) but they won‘t let me :(
honorable mention: the Fediverse!
The Fediverse truly is a great thing to exist! Only thing is: Someone named Eugen Rochko (the one behind Mastodon, and the same person who first shot against Twitter for making a walled garden (saying something along the lines of „We already had that once in East Germany and it went terribly!“ or something iirc) and then recently starting to make his own walled garden by telling people to just sign up on mastodon.social instead of on other instances by default when starting to use the „official“ Mastodon apps) basically decided to now be a threat against the whole thing. To name some things - Mastodon gGmbH has an insane value (trademarks, lots of users on mastodon.social, official apps, the Mastodon API used by lots of other Fediverse server software (like Akkoma, Pleroma, Calckey and Mastodon forks), the website at joinmastodon.org and a huge installed base). And now lots of instances slowly start defederating from the „flagship“ Mastodon instance, mastodon.social, to avoid a buyout of the whole thing (which is actually totally understandable).
Also, being there with more than 650 followers just makes me concomfortable… :/
and here we are, at Cohost…
Cohost is that weird mix between Twitter, Tumblr and somehow it‘s own thing entirely at the same time. And… I don‘t know, while some people can perfectly vibe with that on here, I can‘t (not to mention that all my friends are on anything but Cohost).
And… to be honest, especially because that page invites me to write much, MUCH longer posts than I can ever imagine to post on here (this post is an exception to that rule!), I barely post anything here :/
(especially since i‘m terrible at coding stuff and I came here for all the CSS crimes and other non-normal post behaviour - and @lexi‘s posts tbh (yes she‘s the reason why I‘m even here in the first place!))
tl;dr: (but also not idk, it‘s like trying to find the end of a short video that loops so subtly you accidentally watch it at least 3 times until you notice it)
I kinda want to just get off of any and all social media entirely (but also not cuz i wanna keep posting my silly things, aaaaaaaa)…
