in the year of our lord 2023, any pair of wireless headphones including breaking edge expensive ones switch into some crappy bluetooth call mode while in a discord call, breaking my music

in reply to @kaara's post:

iirc this is to do with accessing the microphone? I think the audio profile for good audio quality doesn't also allow a microphone, so it switches to the "crappy audio, but can use the microphone" one. I might also have no clue what I'm talking about, so... y'know.

depending on what platform you're on, and whether you have a different mic, it might be possible to fix by forcing discord, etc. not to use your headphones' microphone

depends on what you want from bluetooth while on discord: if you want your headphones to have their microphone enabled, then you need something like FastStream or aptX Voice support on them. If you are okay with using your computer's microphone, there's hacks to disable call profiles entirely on Windows and Linux.

If you're in Windows, at least for my bluetooth headphones, the regular mode and "hands free" modes are listed as two separate sound devices in the Windows Audio Control Panel (Settings -> System -> Sound -> More Sound Settings). Right Click -> Disable'ing the device representing the hands free mode has for me prevented my headphones from going into tin-can mode when I use Discord.
