in lieu of a ride photo or a POV, please enjoy these pictures of a windy mountain pass through the pisgah national forest on our way to the ride and the view from the station.

blue ridge mountain coaster is a brand new Wiegand installation at yogi bear’s jellystone park camp-resort (we’re using full legal names here folks) in bostic, north carolina. note that i say brand new—it literally opened 7 days ago at the time of this post. the day we went on this was technically the “grand opening”. the folks who run the park were gracious enough to invite ACE to the opening ceremony, and to feed us some free lunch from local vendors.

i had fun on this! it’s a lot higher altitude than rocky top was, and a lot more remote. getting to this was a challenge. whereas rocky top was just off the main road in pigeon forge, getting to jellystone required a lot of technically challenging driving to a remote campground. at the campground, we were sent to a deeper gravel lot, and then transferred to a van which drove us up into the forest to actually ride the thing.

they put a lot of care into disrupting the local ecosystem as little as possible. i think this will be really nice to ride once the brush grows back a bit. the remote nature of the ride lends itself to some incredible wildlife spotting up on the way to the top of the lift hill. it’s got a great layout on the way down, too, with lots of cool twists and turns. my only issue is a heavy presence of trim brakes—i think this thing would easily top 35 if they were less aggressive on the trims.

no tier cuz it’s a mountain coaster. credit 149.
