I post about Kamen Rider, and also living in a failed democracy that distracts me from enjoying Kamen Rider.

I am so frustrated. I just had an hour long conversation with my mother, where after a very straight forward Q&A, I decided to extend the conversation for the duration of my commute home. I asked her to name a single political belief that she actually holds because she expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

I found that to be rather perplexing considering America is a fascist police state where the far right have gotten everything they want except public execution of queer people at this point. So I wanted to try and understand what the issue she was having was.

For the next thirty minutes she refused to give me an example of a single political belief she held. The closest we got was a religious/philosophical belief that people should 'center God' in their lives. Eventually, I was able to get her to give some bland conspiratorial answers but they weren't substantial. Mostly just paranoia about China and Ukraine(?!).

This isn't the first time this has happened, but I'm beginning to wonder if Boomers have any political beliefs at all, or if they just treat electing politicians like some kind of sportsball. You don't have to have a good reason to root for a specific team in sportsball. But I do feel that if you political beliefs are so shallow that you are indistinguishable from a football fan, perhaps you shouldn't hold all the power in the country.
