blurays and dvds store their subtitles as transparent images, layered over the video. this makes them static in their formatting, but essentially uneditable, and not very compressable. so i've been experimenting with different methods of converting them to text-based subtitles, like SubRip or Sub Station Alpha. This is done using OCR and can be time consuming to do properly, as OCR loves to think a capital I is a | or an f or a '. But I'm trying. And my first bluray that I was experimenting with was the 1997 Jackie Chan film Mr. Nice Guy.
