The more I play f-zero 99, the more I love everything about it. they somehow managed to take a game I had little interest in and repackage it in a really exciting way, while keeping nearly all of its identity. It's visually similar but so much easier to parse what's going on. The machines seem to have the exact same stats, but with the boost mechanic from X (and for good reason, I find it to be a genius mechanic). And they're also very well balanced; all of the machines are viable while offering different playstyles. I like that I can instantly just queue into races whenever and I love that you're incentivized to go for KOs.

And most importantly! Grand Prix is great! I really hope remnants of this can carry over into the next f-zero (and I really hope there is a next f-zero). Basically after every lap, the people in last get eliminated, permanently. KOs are also permanent, and when you get a KO, your boost meter gets a little larger, which is also permanent. This makes for really exciting gameplay, where you have to make sure you're never in the back, and even getting to the last race of a GP is a reward in and of itself.

I can get a lot more into discussing this game but I want to keep this brief. I'm really captivated! As of now I have about 40 hours logged, at level 50 and rank S7. And I'm eagerly awaiting the "new" tracks, and am hopeful for its longevity and others' further interest in the series.
