-it feels amazing to only be aware of twitter problems after theyve been posted to tumblr or cohost, which means they've breached the filter of people trying to make shit sound as dire and annoying as possible and i can shrug off as being stupid or pathetic

-increased production. i havent made some damn project or whatever but ive still been drawing more this month than i did for maybe most of january

-severe reduction in me posting every instance of me Going Through It and giving words to things that dont need it. venting serves a purpose but there were times i was just giving life to something that would pass if i just went to lay down

-not being aware of every fucking schism going on between different circles bc i love everyone i truly do but holy shit my heart needed a break

-a genuine, palpable lightness from not subjecting myself to the microwave hallway from mgs4 just to kill time

i do intend to like. use twitter again because i do miss friends posts and goings on + artists i like to keep up with etc etc. we are all social beings and for what it is, twitter does fulfill a social need to connect and vibe and shoot the shit.

that all said i genuinely cannot make it be this thing that stays open at all times just waiting for Something to Happen On It. gonna likely impose specific times of use and/or other means to just minimize blind usage of it because the benefits of being off it more than on it are too real to me now

in a better world, the good that twitter has for connection would be more lovingly moderated and people who need safety and care would be prioritized but we are not in this world and twitter is literally engineered to make you feel as overwhelmed, emotionally frayed and horrible as possible wherever it can find a way to monetize your free time

humans were not meant to have to process so much shit all at once. nobody should have to be forced into sitting by the elephant's foot for hours on end i wish the people i know who have to be reliant on twitter for their livelihoods could be able to take these kinds of breaks too.

in reply to @capy-bara's post:

i've mostly quit twitter cold turkey at this point, but I still pop in occasionally (esp to use a private account, where there are still a couple friends who aren't on cohost or discord yet). I think the big thing for me is that I have to think of Twitter of a place that I go to purposefully, and only when I have a reason. Like, killing the part of my brain that says that I should have twitter around as background radiation.

The other big thing is trying to consciously route my Posting Impulses onto here, or at least onto here first. If I have a funny joke it gets cohost-first privilege, and if I have a serious thought it's probably just going on here. this is good imo since frankly 99% of replies I get on twitter I find generally irritating and not worth having to deal with unless I'm like, promoting something

the background radiation part of this is super important - i used to just have it on just to have it on and i don't think that can be a thing any more if i really want to reap Good Brain Benefits.

i enjoy twitter as a place to jaw with friends and post/see art and talk abt important stuff and joke around and spread important news etc. but i really want to have much clearer intent when i open twitter. i don't have to have some major thing to say but i cant have it be open for hours on end Just Because

im probably gonna keep a lot of access rules in place on my phone, which has helped me during this month bc sooooo much phone shit is habitual and i still find myself blindly tapping the twitter icon just out of my hand being used to it

love this, its really hard to reclaim your attention and energy from the cycle of compulsive (in my case at least) scrolling, researching, venting. its so great that youre noticing the benefits

god, people LOVE to use that "did you know this is the most important thing ever" voice online. like everyone on linkedin met up with the people who write political fundraising emails and wrote a style guide. i only use twitter/fb in the browser and at this point i so just dgaf about the feed that most of the time im just tapping over to my friends lists on twitter anyways especially now that they have the tabs. browser social media probably makes the screen time stuff harder tho
