"I want FALGSC by 2033 (for myself and people who I acknowledge the existence of)" "we need a tellurocratic gemeinschaft that's also proletarian and anti-imperialist but also patriotic and American (that somehow synthesises Prosperity Gospel, Tengrism, Russian Orthodoxy, and Roman Catholicism)" "how about a sustainable solarpunk society (don't ask where the solar panels come from)" "no, we need to end industry (but it's somehow not ableist)" "actually let's just wait until our alien comrades come to save us (from the thousands of nukes that we expect to be detonated soon)"

God, some of the ideological positions that've picked up traction at least among extremely online left posters make my most utopian, silly hopes look positively modest?

All I want is a world that's set up such that everyone, no matter where they're from, can just expect a good life β€” even if that means, for example, species-affirming medical care! Which is going to take a ton of hard work to achieve, but we can do it. We can, and must, build a world where the people mining coltan in the DRC or sewing shirts in Bangladesh have the same quality of life as people managing supply chains in Liechtenstein or genetically engineering artisanal cannabis strains in Canada, and where that quality of life is good.

Not everyone can have Β½ an acre, a white picket fence, and two fucknormous Cadillacs in the driveway β€” hell, in a world that's sustainable and equitable, no one will, honestly. But the kings of previous economic orders never could've imagined things that billions of us just take for granted every day, like video calls across the planet.
