As we enter pride discourse season

Our community is under attack more than we have been for the past decade. We grew complacent and got used to the level of assimilation and conditional acceptance and protection that allowed us to somehow see each other as our enemies.

This year we require unity. We must stand together in solidarity to protect what we've gained. We must protect our trans youth, our access to healthcare, and yes even marriage which is still currently the only way for us to gain legal recognition of our families and the privileges afforded to families.

So this year when you have a divisive opinion about other LGBT people who you cringe at or think suck. When you think about how someone is identifying wrong or overly liberal or making us look bad. I want you to repeat the following mantra:

I may be right, but now is not the time. We need every queer heart beating with blood to stand together and fight.

Thank you, and may your pride burn bright with love and joy to fuel us.

It is probably worth acknowledging that there has been a concerted effort attempting to produce this result. A very well funded and resourced effort.

Acknowledging this (I hope) only serves to underscore how important this message is.

I can't agree with this because I think 'accepting' the jerks is what led to people openly being hostile - and having evidence to make people look bad. See the people who were falsely accusing people of having weapons to get people arrested outside Chapelle's Closer. Nobody called them out as being terrible people, and now all the awful people can say, "Look what THOSE people did! And nobody on their side speaks up about it, and they all accept it!"

Call out bullshit even if they identify with your own groups because otherwise, you're just making your groups look bad by association.

Now read my post and tell me if the actions you're describing are related to someone being cringe, identifying with the wrong language, or being overly liberal. e.g. is that Pride Month discourse?

I think anyone saying "nobody on their side speaks up about it" is someone who's already a career hater. That's not the innocent words of someone objectively observing the situation, it's a social media trolling addict on Argument #4252532 and they don't actually care about your answer because they already have #4252533 loaded up and ready to go.

Even the framing of "their side" as opposed to "wow, those particular people made a bad decision" suggests someone who believes the battle lines are already drawn. Normal people forgot about that whole situation five minutes after it blew over, and do not demand any kind of Comment from the Greater Community.
