It's fascinating how variable "the City of" is in its meaning. Like, the City of London? Not even 1/1,000th of Greater London's population, and about 1/600th of its land area. The City of Vancouver? About 1/4th of Metro Vancouver's population, and maybe 1/25th of its land area. New York City? 2/5ths of the New York Metropolitan Area's population, 1/8th of its land area… …and five entire counties. Beijing? 95% of its metropolitan area's population, and 4/3rds of its land area.
