again I can say this here because I won't get banned for it
I am sure our ^ bastard motherfucker of a mayor will have this be the thing that truly gasses him up to eradicate the parks board. I can only hope he falls into a well and never gets rescued before it can happen.
For non-Vancouverites, a very large portion of a downtown neighborhood is a beachfront with a two-way street that had one lane turned into a bike path, making it a one-way street for cars. Next to it is a big open park with grass for everyone to sit and enjoy. The mayor wanted to turn it back into a two-way street and move the bike path into the park with a big new asphalt road that would have both bike and pedestrian traffic on it. It was widely criticized for being an unsafe, short-sighted, car-centric decision in a neighborhood that does not need the traffic but sees one of the highest concentration of bike and foot traffic. Our Parks board is independent from city council (which our mayor hates and is trying to abolish because of it) and, last night, killed the plan to make this happen because residents overwhelmingly hated the idea.
