Barnaby is not up for an early walk today (Simparica dose was yesterday and tends to leave him groggy for a bit), so I went a-pickin’. There’s a high potential for severe thunderstorms tomorrow and I’d prefer to get the veggies before the hail does.
The beet was a nice surprise! I’m having much better luck with them this year than last. I’ll blanch the greens along with the spinach and chard and freeze. The snap beans are most likely on their way to a three bean salad. And the progress peas are delightfully plump— not bad for a seed swap find.
Sugar snaps are just about done for now. I’ll give them another day to fatten up and then take the rest before it starts storming. I think I’ll pop a couple of dwarf sunflowers in their spot for fall.
Someone has been snatching my young zucchini. I need to figure out a way to up my fence game. I plant zucchini more out of tradition than a love for them, so I’m not heartbroken over it. I just don’t want the suburban wildlife to get accustomed to being fed.
