So recently, Hilltop released a translation patch for a PS2 game called THE Maid Uniform & Machinegun. It's a low-budget game, from a long series of miscellaneous low-budget PS2 games called the Simple 2000 Series. The Simple 2000 Series was also where the first Earth Defense Force game was made, so that should give you an idea of what kind of games were being made there.

I decided to finally pick up Maid & Machine Gun today, and played through most of the game. While I would love to be the kind of person who goes "everybody needs to play THE Maid Uniform & Machine Gun right now," honestly I found the game itself... pretty okay. It's a low-budget PS2 action game that very much feels like a low-budget PS2 action game.

I might have been missing something, but the entire counter & combo system in the game didn't feel very good to me at all. Spamming the machine gun button is the easiest way to get through a fight, but also the least efficient. It's a game that feels like it wants to be a fancy character action game, but just isn't there. I was able to get to the final(?) boss rush in about an hour though, so it's certainly not a game that wastes your time.

It's kind of neat, but I wish there was more there. Even if just more time-traveling maid shenanigans.
