just like, a lil guy

Hello!

Linus Media Group has been called out (in the reasonable kind of way) by well-respected fellow PC hardware YouTube outlet Gamers Nexus for sloppy videos, sloppy journalistic practices and worrying conflicts of interest.

Linus himself then responded with a bizarre and terrible response that apologised for nothing.

And now the company's former Community Manager has just spoken out on Twitter/X about the company's grind culture, hostile work environment, misogyny and sexual harrassment she received (CW: all the aforementioned, plus self-harm)

in reply to @cainoct's post:

I really hate the tonal negligence and tonedeafness within the video. It is a serious thing to address and I swear to God, they've just filmed it like a normal inconvenience.

IE. "You don't know me, but I'm the new CEO. I specialise in computer science, and have an impressive CV of running companies. Here's a quick message... from our sponsor!! jk I'm Yvonne. Finances are hard. blah blah blah blah Im gonna pass it ovwr to our REAL money-spender!"

Whoops!! Oopsie daisy!! Seriously, put in royalty-free happy music. This would feel right at home.

This may just be my incomptence but I'm gonna say it anyway. Staff deflect with technical terminology rather than informing or explaining to the viewer. They are translucent about what really happened and their individual roles in it. They expect us to know every piece of criticism or drama that happened. I'm aware LTT had an enthusiast audience, but srsly... drama like this ALWAYS reaches uninformed people.

I'm extremely disappointed and will unsubscribe and actively boycott their content.

Yeah I was only able to get in about 10 minutes of the video before I had to leave for work. At first the tone seemed... fine? But then they started tossing in light jokes to lighten the mood like "LTT.com! cus someone had to." and it's just... it's not the fucking time for this. Y'all are dealing with a serious image and reputation problem due to being dragged into an unsustainable situation, with a company face who isn't supposed to be in charge that still acts like it's his decision for everything that happens.

Then there was the Madison thread and I just. I can't anymore.

I haven't watched that much yet, but I can kinda forgive it if the jokes are just in transitions. A little awkward, but it's generally an awkward situation, and there seems to be at least some tangible action being taken (including calling Linus out on being a jackass). Also I think the CEO hasn't actually gotten the chance to do an introduction until really having to be on camera now, so the awkwardness of that is whatever to me.

I'm just hoping the workers there start to get better conditions out of this and production gets more responsible.

Edit: the jokes by Nick about the store were really annoying
Edit_2: Some other annoying jokes, but also Linus starting with a defense is obnoxious and undermines things. Also not nearly enough apologizing done from him.

i used to watch LTT in middle school, this sucks :( i think it was kinda common knowledge that LTT overworks (and underpays!) their employees, which leads to mistakes. and Linus not acknowledging problems is not exactly new either.

but the sexual harassment stuff is so fucked up, there's basically no coming back from that as far as i'm concerned, unlike the other issues which might be possible to fix (not saying they will be).

this kinda reminds me of what happened with Rooster Teeth as well. it's really upsetting to find out these things about these places i used to look up to/think of as dream jobs as a kid.
