Honestly, theory crafting was never really my strongest area when it came to engage with fandom (especially this fandom).
However, i think it's pretty clear to see Flowey's behaviour as being more of a trauma response and not an aspect of his soullessness. Like in the geno route, the boy goes through some pretty intense emotional responses as you near the end which kind of betrays that he is capable of engaging with emotions and succumbing to them, especially when the product of his trauma is starting to resurface.
And pacifisms shows this even more clearly as he's capable of character growth and redemption, managing to see the error of his ways at the end even though he lacks a soul.
The boy lost his best friend/sibling, died a horrific death, and wasn't allowed into the afterlife, that broke him and he clung to the most convenient excuse to justify it. It's easier to blame an ugly emotional response on a physical limitation rather than a project of trauma.
idk if that rambling made any sense. Like i said this is more Szar or Determinator's area of expertise. i just like to write the characters bumping genitals.
Whoa thank you for sharing, that's... i'm sorry it went down like that.
