Chocolatier: Indulgence Chocolatiers
Flavor: Gingerbread
What I Paid: $7.50
It's December 8th and we're officially ankle-deep in Christmastime, so I'm gonna use that as an excuse to review a gingerbread themed bar! This 61% cocoa bar from Milwaukee-based Indulgence Chocolatiers is flavored with ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg! It is one of Indulgence's three seasonal flavors that are only available during the holidays.
I wanna quickly note that the one consistent problem I've had with Indulgence's products is their appearance. Their bars are often full of air bubbles, and they always seem to be rough and scuffed up. The mold they use isn't particularly interesting either. But appearance doesn't really matter if the flavor is good, so let's eat this dang thing:
When you first put this chocolate into your mouth, you are greeted by a blast of ginger flavor that is shortly followed by a spicy kick of cinnamon. The chocolate then steps in with a nice mellow cocoa flavor, and the whole thing ends with an aftertaste of sweet vanilla. I genuinely love this bar, but I have to warn you that the spices here are intense. This bar legitimately gives you a little bit of a burning sensation, like the kind you get when you eat a Red Hots candy. In this bar the spice is the star, and the chocolate is just a supporting role. And while this is a positive for me, I know that it is not going to be for everybody. But if you are a gingerbread spice lover, I highly recommend giving this one a try!
