Chocolatier: L.A. Burdick
Flavor: Single Source Madagascar Dark Chocolate
What I Paid: $11.00

I've wanted to try some chocolate from high-end American chocolatier L.A. Burdick for awhile now, so while I was driving through Illinois this past weekend, I made a point of visiting their Chicago storefront. I picked up a few things while I was there, but today I'm just gonna review just one: A single source dark chocolate bar made with cacoa from Madagascar. Let's dig in!

Despite being 64% cocoa, this bar is super smooth with practically no bitterness. It's perfectly tempered, leading to a nice crisp snap when you bite into it and a velvety melt as it sits on your tongue. The flavor of this bar starts strong, with bright fruity notes of red berry, and finishes mellow, with sweet whispers of wine and vanilla.

Dang. This is some really good chocolate! Even with its high price point, I think it is 100% worth the money. This is the ultimate in "special occasion" chocolate. It's too expensive to eat regularly, but it would make for a luxurious gift or perhaps a decadent birthday treat. Needless to say, would get again!

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Burdick’s chocolate bar, but I’ve drunk hot chocolate at their Boston cafe and it was exceptional. As in I clearly remember it more than a decade later.
