Ya know, it's been a while since I've had a Godiva product. Back when there was a Godiva retail store right next to my house, I visited quite often to check their discount bin for good deals. But that store closed down 8 years ago, I haven't really bothered to pick up anything Godiva branded since. Let's fix that! Today I'm going to try out one of their dark chocolate bars that has a raspberry flavored filling!
The chocolate of this bar is sweet, but still packs a nice hit of cocoa flavor. It has a strong note of vanilla and a lightly tannic finish. The filling has a jam-like consistency with a few raspberry seeds scattered through. It has a bright, tart raspberry flavor that nicely meshes with the relatively strong sweetness of the chocolate.
Despite this bar being extremely tasty, I can't recommend buying it. Why? Because Ghirardelli has a raspberry bar that tastes almost exactly the same and costs half the price (per ounce) of this bar. The Godiva version does have a slightly higher ratio of filling to chocolate, and, unlike the Ghirardelli version, has some raspberry seeds for crunch. But neither of those reasons is enough for me to pay twice as much. So yeah, I wouldn't get this one again.
