"aesthetic" home espresso videos walk the perfect line between ragebait and fiddly gadgetcore virality. someone making an intentionally stupid drink with 200 thousand comments half of them are like "omg 😍" and the other are grip-snapping pencils every time there's a new step in the process

i hate them for a whole other reason and it's because making espresso is a disgusting and inherently messy process and anything portraying it as a tidy, puzzley little bit of zen is malicious

As a professional barista every time I see a bottomless portafilter I have to force myself to not reach for a non-existent towel to clean up the spatter just out of frame.

It is still fun seeing how people make espresso when they have all the time and gadgets in the world though. As much as I hate the conspicuous consumption of it all its fun seeing what people can do when they're not trying to pull 6 shots in 2 minutes.

yeah its a way different experience pulling shots at home than when i did it all day for work. tbf though my bottoless pf basically never splatters, most of the mess is drips and coffee grounds and prep tools and cups everywhere
