Cursor keys:

Precise

Very slow

Page up/Page down keys:

Very fast

Imprecise

Scrollwheel:

Very fast
Very precise

Have to move hand to the mouse

Scrollwheel 1cm left of Tab key:

Very fast
Very precise
It's right* there

IT JUST MAKES SENSE

It was a mushy rubber dome mess, but I miss my Internet Navigator keyboard so much for this exact reason

Oh, and it also also a recessed button to put your computer into sleep mode that was just a liiitle to close to the Esc key

It's not quite the same, but it's not uncommon for hand-built mechanical keyboards to have rotary encoders that act as scroll wheels (or volume controls, etc)! My next split keyboard is going to have one knob on each half right by where your thumb goes, sort of like https://raw.githubusercontent.com/park-csu/Lyra/main/assets/built.jpg

Seconding the rotary encoder! I think there are kits that let you place it near the escape button, which might be nicer for middle/index finger usage.
