A curious little bunny

I like to create things.

Perhaps most known for romhacks: Game Boy colorizations, Samus Goes to the Fridge, etc.

I also do OC art from time to time.

With Dream Land 2 DX out and in a (hopefully) polished state, I've done some pondering over the past few days about where to go next. There's definitely other games out there I've wanted to hack, some that many people like, others that are "no one asked for this where's dk94", and my previous colorizations have room for improvement, too.

At the same time, though, I've also wanted to branch out a bit more from just romhacking. For nearly five years now, it's gradually brought me confidence in being able to make something that others can enjoy, whether it be through laughs like my earlier works, or a more serious fondness like my colorizations. However, throughout this time, I've also wanted to create something that exudes my own creativity, rather than just relying on an existing thing like with romhacks.

I recently played through You Have to Win the Game, a freeware flip-screen Metroidvania-like platformer with funny1 room names. The sheer simplicity yet overall enjoyability of it made me think I could get into actual gamedev with something with a similar scope/size, maybe as a GB/GBC homebrew since I'm quite familiar with the hardware and love the system.

Or, maybe I don't want to tackle A Whole 'Nother Project. I could very well just do art more often to express my more creative side. For a long time, I've really liked to create OCs and build worlds, but I never really had the confidence to share much about them. Like, I have a ton of FireAlpaca sketches from my high school days, drawing more under the radar while my Metroid meme hacks were the thing anyone knew me for. The drawing definitely slowed down going into college though, mostly relegated to sketches in the margins of my notebooks. Definitely plenty of potential to showcase more.

There's also my fascination with music stuff, which I never fully realized beyond my DefleMask days.

Overall, there's plenty of choice for my free time now that The Big One is off the table. Can't say I'm certain where I'll go just yet.

  1. Or not, depending on your taste in late 00s/early 10s humor/memes.
