(Yeah it's still 2022 here as of writing, y'all later timezone-ers feel free to point and laugh)
Well, I more or less got through it. Made progress in IRL things, played several new video game releases, joined this lovely site, the better parts were pretty chill to be honest.
Output of my personal projects, on the other hand, kinda slowed down in comparison to the previous several years. Releases only happened earlier on in the year, and were rather small anyway. Regardless, here's my portfolio of code/hax stuff from 2022:
Kirby's Pinball Land DX v1.1
A small but beneficial update to my debut Gameboy colorization from the year prior. Fixed some issues, enhanced some graphics, overall made it a bit better. Still one dumb palette issue that I haven't had the drive to do the RE-ing to fully fix though.
GDMA Guy
A small homebrew ROM demonstrating an obscure GBC hardware feature that for some reason works differently on the GBA SP than it does on other system variants. I ran into this discrepancy while developing Faceball 2000 DX the year prior, which I coded GDMA into for faster gameplay, and ultimately decided to make a standalone demonstration of this oddity as my first homebrew project.
worx-ani
A Python script that decodes the .ani/.sld animation format used in Brunswick Frameworx scoring computers dating back to the 90s. Yup, the OG bowling animations, pretty much. Back in February, I found that someone had finally archived the files for these, but since nothing could play them back, I took it into my own hands to decode them. I spent a few days researching the format and decoding the RLE scheme behind them, making these wonderful things viewable at native quality. The one who preserved the files subsequently used my script to compile them into a video.
King James Bible DX
A small Gameboy colorization hack that I made within a few days as an April Fool's Day joke. Makes Wisdom Tree's King James Bible compatible in GBC mode, with a few background and sprite colors applied. Ultimately provides little more than laughs at the sheer absurdity of making a hack for a game like this.
And that's basically it for my actual project releases of this year. There's still been attempts at making things underneath the hood, though, and I feel as if something particular in the works might surface sometime in 2023. Only time will tell though.
