Also some genuinely good advice for parents here. Let your kids solve problems themselves! Don't just show them everything, let them be lost for a bit!
the manhole, spelunx, and cosmic osmo were heavy hitters in my formative years. i love them. anyway, one of the coolest things you can do as a parent is give your very young children toys or other objects and don't give them any suggestions about what to do with them. like you don't even have to give them the thing right-side-up. then you end up seeing them explore and use those toys in extremely nonstandard and interesting ways.
unfortunately as kids get older, they get more and more exposed to how things are "supposed" to be used, and you lose a lot of that really weird play. but you can still find it in the ways they repurpose everyday objects to bring their imagination to life.
like for whatever reason my 8yo is always taking cardboard boxes apart and repurposing them to make augments to their arms or legs, that they tape together and fashion into something they'll wear awkwardly for the next several days. it's just great to see
