Totally breaking out the fedora on this one. If you were used to Mac the world they have been apps for actually a long time. It comes from how NeXT applications ended in a .app file name. So for a subset of us it's been apps a lot longer than the iPhone lol.
ok for real though i just recently noticed "pfp" has displaced "avatar" everywhere and it's throwing me πΏ

GOD "avatar" just sounds cooler too like
"my prooooofile has a pictureeeee" vs "this is a projection of my essence into this digital world, a vessel to contain my essence"
For the life of fucking us we can't understand why people started saying pfp.
Couple years ago our best friend said we were antiquated for saying avatar instead of pfp, so jokingly we started calling their Second Life avatars "Display Characters" nodnodnodnodnodnodnod.
Could be worse. Everyone could be calling all variations of this a "toon"

i looked it up and thought "this is stupid, just a terrible acronym, the number of letters didn't even match the words, what were people thinking?" then my brain half-erased the knowledge as a defense mechanism

I used to do this with "japanimation" until it was brought to my attention in my early 20s that it was considered an insensitive term. πΆ
Saying "PMs" instead of "DMs" because one of them at least implies that the website may not be reading them.
sometimes there is more than one program on a single cassette, make a note of the tape counter on each one to make loading simpler.
also, later, i was teased when i labeled an atari disc as "apps and accs" for applications and accessories. i'm still waiting for 'acc' to be a thing.
