i dig this site but honestly it feels incredibly empty and dead without any indicator of engagement other than comments. Like I get that it's kinda The Point and I think internet number chasing has poisoned social media a lot, but I'd like to be able to see Likes or something at least. Not as a measurement for popularity but just to feel any kind of human user connection at all, because comments are the smallest and least frequent form of interaction on any site it just feels dead navigating the feed when you get like maybe 1 comment a week. idk, maybe I'm in the minority here.

Like ideally, I feel like Cohost would be the perfect alternative to tumblr. devoid of the corporate deathroll that has been occurring there over the past few years.

You must log in to comment.

I think the fact that the notification tab opens up separately and doesnt give an indicator of how many you've received before opening the tab it makes me feel less incentivized to do so, and I'm not on the site enough to like actually see any interaction flow

tbf i should probably try to comment on ppls art more, generally i dont really do it bc i never feel like i have a lot i can "meaningfully" say but i should try to engage with stuff a lil more actively than just hitting the heart icon and sometimes the two swirly arrows icon

like i think ive v much fallen into the sorta idle "scroll and engage" form of interacting online that corporate sites want ppl to fall into and i think i should try to unlearn that

Yeah, I can see it. Especially isn't the greatest feeling when your art has a long history of "lots of likes but literally no comments" (this is just personal experience)
We all have out brainworms that help us feel attached and motivated and many of these blanket solutions just don't always work out the best. I understand the need to remove oneself from the metric hell, but like you, sometimes it just feels a little too isolating. I'm not connecting with anyone. It's almost kinda like window shopping in a weird way.

completely agree. numbers don't need to be a negative, they are also a genuine indicator of social contact, if a minor and fickle one. it's nothing like friendship or even acquaintance of course, but a number of likes or reblogs or even views still shows, imperfectly perhaps, that there are people around and people who like what you make enough to let you and others know about it

I think it's a good blog site but yeah the social part of it is a bit lacking..
I think what social media, even cohost lacks is a good mix of interaction/community and anonymity.

I don't really know how to fix that? Discord does a good job at connecting ppl online and irl but idk how to improve a feed based social media
