IMO you're using it correctly. I turned it on to have less idea when things happened.
It is genuinely a little nice to be able to talk about time in absolute terms. Arguably GMT is just as functional but in practice it feels worse. For one, AM and PM are huge headaches when you're offset a significant fraction of a day. Also, Beat time feels more neutral, it confuses Europeans almost as much as people elsewhere lol
It is technically based on a Swiss meridian because Swatch invented it, but given the nature of the clock, that's only really useful near 000 and 500 lmao
What I find more technically interesting about it is that it's actually an independent reinvention of French Revolution-era Decimal Time
