Something that I'm the only target audience for is paying attention to the fast section in any translation covers of Internet Yamero.
During that section, several Japanese internet memes are thrown at the listener in quick succession, they're all memes someone who's relatively active on the internet in Japanese would recognize though I can't really speak on how representative of the entire community is.
What is interesting however is what memes translators chose to replace those with. Different translations are made by different people, different team sizes and for different audiences and the intentions can be felt most while seeing what memes are chosen.
I commented on this a while ago on my Tumblr, but a Hololive streamer sung in such a cover. A lot of the memes chosen are relatively recent and largely centered on Twitter and Twitch which suits the general audience of Hololive.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have a cover written by an individual who, quite clearly, was active on Tumblr when Danganronpa was big. Several of the chosen memes being straight up references from the game! There are also a few, somewhat surface-level Reddit memes and references to quite obscure Tumblr posts.
In the middle, you've got everything from references to 4chan culture throughout the years to TikTok memes that I'm pretty sure made it big less than a year ago.

If you ever have some time and feel like challenging your idea of the internet, do search up the song on YouTube and listen to some people's choices. Maybe even think about what you would pick you fit those verses, I'm definitely curious as to what this website's idea of "culturally significant internet memes that fit in a catchy tune" is.
