so how do they learn to be cowbirds and not another species of bird? We didn't know until now! They fucking sneak out at night and go roost with the adults of their species, where they presumably learn cowbird songs and behaviors. Then they sneak back into their foster nest to keep getting fed and cared for

I’ve seen the occasional cowbird and aesthetically have always liked them, but I never did any reading about them and didn’t know they were brood parasites! So now I’ve learned two things.

I'm glad! I feel like most people think of cuckoo birds as the brood parasite birds (which, they are), to the point that we kind of forget they are by no means the only species to use this strategy
