Glimmer of darkness

I press buttons until the light matrix shows colors I like. Currently working mostly with Elixir and Rust on various personal projects.

I'm the bitch who complains that the ending of Interstellar involves extremely inefficient transmission of information

Well, I guess this is it, time for us all to join the big eggbug in the sky.

As promised, I've created a gallery of community art — please do check it out. A number of artworks ended up not getting posted here as there just wasn't enough time to get through the whole backlog, but every artwork that could have been posted is present in the gallery.

I've also written a eulogy for the bot over on my personal blog (it's got RSS!)

Finally, I'd like to share the thank-you section from the eulogy here too:

Thank you to programmer Tony Pomfret, artist Craig Houston, and musician Tim Follin for creating the original NES game. Additionally, thank you to oft-uncredited audio programmer Stephen “Ste” Ruddy for creating the game’s sound driver.

Thank you to Foone Turing, for planting the idea for the bot all those years ago, and providing incredibly useful reference for the reverse-engineering.

Thank you to @vogon, @jkap, @aidan, and @kaara, for creating the only social media website I ever truly loved.

Thank you to the 179 artists who created an astonishing 486 custom drawings for us to enjoy:

And thank you to everyone who interacted with the account in any capacity. Whether you submitted drawings, commented guesses, or just shared it with your friends, your contribution was cherished. Without all of you, this would’ve been just a silly little bot posting drawings into the abyss.

You made this.

in reply to @nes-pictionary's post:

I only ever made one drawing for this, but I really enjoyed following it and seeing everyone's creativity at display as they pushed against the limitations of the format to create impressive artwork, and I enjoyed seeing and occasionally participating in the silly guesses in the comments. Thank you for taking the initative to make this a thing.

oh no the gallery being in chronological order really exhibits how i just plastered the queue with drawings all at once not long after the tool went up lmao
