Good morning, beautiful people! Happy Friday! Safe travels, if you’re traveling—the weather here has been something else. I hope that you’re staying warm and that the week has treated you well, and that you’re looking forward to the weekend <3 Today I placed a pickup order at Starbucks and got there to find it on fire, which is some kind of metaphor for how my year is going, I guess?

ANYWAY >:3

2022’s Christmas Story is now up on SoFurry as well as on Writing Dot Dog, if you're a Patreon subscriber, and I hope that y’all enjoy it—the tenth year I’ve been doing this, somehow. It is smutty, of course, so consider yourself to be going into that one forewarned. It’s also a Cannon Shoals story, which means we get to see what Danny is up to, and also there’s some rough sex, because it’s Christmas. Y’know?

People seem to like Carlos and Sam, which is good because I enjoy writing about them. Sam is one of... several… characters who inherits much of her personality from my friend Kohi, and she is in more Top Troubledog Form in this story than I’d really noticed when I first started writing it.

But that’s okay! Everyone likes troubledogs ;)

<3 Leftover burrito for lunch, still in the aluminum foil tray. Troubledogs in text Ore-green Winter storm IS US-520 AN OLD LOGGING ROAD, OR AN OLD LOGGING RAILROAD GRADE OR BOTH OR NEITHER OR WHAT, NOW I WANT TO KNOW AND HAVE VISIONS OF KOHI WITH CAMERAS PHOTOGRAPHING THE REMAINS OF THE OLD GRADE I miss Kohi. :( Cheers my friend.

...Heck. I'm not sure. The railroad that Southern Pacific eventually bought started out as the Neetashnee & Siletz, was later the Union Umpqua & Western, and was the Neatasknea-Siletz Coast Railroad by the time of the acquisition. Those names all imply to me that the line principally ran north-south, so the east-west US-520 is more likely to be a logging road.

But because I am Very Smart And Definitely Think Things Through, in "Through Great Cloudy Skies Above," the a hobo who shows up early on says he took the train east from Corvallis, and Clara says that the Neetashnee & Siletz has finished a new line east to the city. So at that point, I was probably thinking about it as an east-west line, again intentionally and not at all randomly >.>

Perhaps railway trestles would be too... industrial...? for Kohi, but I like to think not. Especially not if there was decent company and the prospect of some good photography and presumably some cheap beer involved. I like to think (she says, one PBR into Christmas Eve) that she would appreciate the stylistic influence, at least.

I miss her a lot. It sparks a lot of weird thoughts.
