Reading manga fan translations and it drives me crazy every time they say "read the atmosphere" like I know they're literally saying "read the air" but we have an English idiom for the same thing and it's "read the room" just use "read the room" it'll work like 70% of the time and not sound so strange
most "fan translators" have a very distinct idea of what Anime English should sound like, influenced by overly-literal translation from the early 2000s…
and this persists
to the point of mansplaining (inaccurately, often via google translate) or harassing the below-minimum-wage translators
anyway, this is why we can't have nice things.
