and instead, they're just the same argument as health insurance, with the same middlemen -- we're going to charge for unused time, to cover the used time, and no you can't have ownership over any of it, we'll change it out from under you whenever, and a large slice of it goes to the higher ups and shareholders
subscription fees are for an ongoing service.
software subscription fees are a protection racket, a threat. if you stop paying they break in and destroy your tools.
iOS and apple platforms have a somewhat developed "small apps" ecosystem where it's possible for one person / a small group of people to make a living.
not adobe, but say, Tapbots. or Cohost, for that matter!
that said, the actual issue is capitalism.
