software subscription fees are a protection racket, a threat. if you stop paying they break in and destroy your tools.

iOS and apple platforms have a somewhat developed "small apps" ecosystem where it's possible for one person / a small group of people to make a living.

not adobe, but say, Tapbots. or Cohost, for that matter!


that said, the actual issue is capitalism.

yeah i still pay into a few patreons less because it's an essential service and more that i want them to have a little walking around money (to quote achewood)

but also i am way more willing to pay for small dev stuff than megacorp stuff. i am constantly buying albums on bandcamp and games on itch.io that i could pirate but i want to support when i can.
