had too much sweet potato after I cut chunks for roasted vegetables tomorrow so I made mashed sweet potato with butter, garlic, and pinches of sage, thyme, and aleppo pepper. it's incredible. I wasn't going to serve it for dinner tomorrow but it's so good I think I might as well
negative shouts out to the local Krogerses (Fred Meyer, QFC) for having their garnet sweet potatoes with the bin name "garnet sweet potato" (this is correct) but in their checkout system as "yam" (absolutely incorrect). this makes it quite hard to pay correctly
- note for Americans: yams (Dioscorea spp.) and sweet potatoes (Ipomoea spp.) are in different botanical families. unless you're at an "ethnic" grocery store you are very unlikely to be looking at an actual yam
- note for New Zealanders: yam (oca) (Oxalis tuberosa) are in yet a different family from true yams and sweet potatoes
- note for Malaysians and Singaporeans: yam (taro) (Colocasia esculenta): different family from sweet potatoes, yams, oca
