That would mean there was a way to take your friends and your history and escape Discord; hostage-taking with your data is load-bearing to abusive online services, and the only way they ever give it up is at regulatory gunpoint.

why d'you think there was all that wailing, about a year ago? — until people got "ugh why are you still going ON" nasty about it and everybody burned out on the topic — that people keep shovelling shit into Discord as the only place it exists any more. It cannot be backed up there. It will not be backed up there. It's barely accessible while it is there and you're going to get fucked.
this would also be horrific for privacy if not implemented correctly
this isn’t a pretty answer, but it’s a constraint that needs careful work to avoid “oops and that’s a lot of nudes leaked” (or worse)
do you post sensitive information or images on discord? do others post sensitive information about you?
it will be tragic if it happens, but without taking a position on if discord should continue to exist, I will be glad if when discord burns, it stays burnt forever
