It's kind of neat, although I'm terrible at Frozen Synapse type combat mechanics. Also I find it hilariously difficult to prevent my lil robo dudes from walking right each other and keeling over. There's not much content in it, but it's always fun to lego robots together and make things explode.

Mostly it just has me mad again that Harebrained Schemes isn't working on a sequel to Battletech, because Battletech was basically the perfect game for my garbage brain -- it rewarded attention but did not ask much in the way of memory and did not require reflexes. And the writing was genuinely very entertaining and not gross, to boot.

(I'm sure the new HBS game that was just announced, which is basically off-brand Indiana Jones tactics, will be great as well, I just can't get quite as excited about that in terms of the look/feel/story.)

Battletech has an active mod scene; I've been meaning to try one or two of the bigger mods, but they all seem kind of annoying to install and also they're generally focused on hewing close to the lore of the source material, and that doesn't necessarily interest me.

in reply to @kukkurovaca's post:

PB suffers from lack of depth in the way of gameplay a lot more than BT. "The player will have to fight potentially hundreds of random battles during the campaign, so having three mission types and functionally no enemy variety should be enough" isn't the winning formula.
