Hi camera nerds I have a dumb question for you. I think I understand enough about this to at least elaborate the question, but please assume I do not.

In the context of videos (I looked and videography has like 5 chosts in it sorry) I've noticed I really prefer the look of, I think CCD sensor video cameras? Anything 15 years or older and SD just has a kind of look to it. It's not specific to tape, I've seen this look on every type of medium. Doesn't seem specific to any codec either, I'm thinking it's purely a sensor thing. The look comes through even when fighting through those mediums as it were.

I just, wish I knew exactly what it was. Maybe it's the dynamic range? Stuff tends to get blown out really quick? Or something about the colors? Maybe it's just the nostalgia for it? It's not like I was out recording stuff when I was a kid but you'd see that kind of footage on TV sometimes.
