the mech customization is obviously really cool, and although it took some getting used to I really like the system of tracking armour and structure damage independently in the different segments of the mechs. I have yet to get much of a feel for the positional tactics beyond "it is good to be in cover" which, yeah. it also has really cool audio design and I like how hard they lean into the mechs as big, lumbering machines.
however, the writing and characters in the first few hours of the campaign don't interest me all that much. you've got your mentor figure who (minor spoilers ahead) is obviously going to get got immediately, the righteous princess who has been unfairly usurped, the eeeeevil regent who rules the realm in the heroes' absence. maybe it'll get more interesting as we go but neither the main plot or the crew mates have hooked me.
the broader lore is kind of cool though. you don't get that much media about fully interstellar human civilization that uses a recognizable calendar era and contains recognizable ethnic, cultural, and religious identities. it's pretty weird if you think about it for too long but it's interesting!
you could put a gun to my head and squeeze the trigger halfway and I still would not say 'Mech
