BUT the last like hyped CHEAP IEM I actually bought was the Blon BL-03, which other than having ergonomically garbage cables (replaceable, though), absolutely deserved its reputation for an extremely pleasant and crowd-pleasing warm tuning. They're just nice to listen to.
There's been a lot of progress since then in the budget market. I know that a lot of folks go for Crinacle collab stuff and/or Moondrop stuff. The nice thing is that the IEM industry seems to have caught up to an important point, which is that you can have a totally basic and good tuning and throw a ton of subbass on top of that, and get really good results. I know that's largely thanks to Crinacle.
Despite being an avowed basshead, I have no intention to try any of the HBB (Hawaii Bad Boy) collab IEMs, because that guy seems like a real asshole. I've seen him post homphobic jabs at users on forums and then go back and delete it, that kind of guy. I also think it's funny that he absolutely trashed Campfire audio's stuff right up until they started sending him review units.
Anyway, tl;dr, I've never actually owned a Moondrop unit, but if I were going to start from scratch with IEMs, I would probably pick whichever Moondrop set is popular in my price bracket because they seem to have tuning dialed in and good value for money.
