As I am new to knitting socks, I am in search of some good cute simple-ish sock patterns1. I am not new to knitting and I am good at spatial reasoning, but I do not have domain-specific knowledge for socks in particular (for example, a pattern that just says "insert your favorite heel here" will not be useful to me right now).

Thoughts? Comments? I'm open to toe-up or top-down as I haven't found a preference yet. 🧶

  1. lace and (narrow) cables2 are fine, I need the "how the portions go together" part to be simple tho

  2. I don't care for the fuss required for 4+ stitch cables tbqh

If you don't mind getting a whole book I recommend Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks. Nice but not too intricate patterns, and it has good instructions for a bunch of different heel and toe constructions so you can find what works for you. Plus it has a fairly interesting section about the historical sources of all the patterns!

Seconding this. Rye Light was the first sock pattern I ever did; it's designed for beginners and is very clear and easy to follow. I still reference the Kitchener stitch diagram in the Rye Light pattern even when I'm doing other kinds of socks.
