Some things that are helpful for me (lifetime asthma-haver)

  • Being on regular maintenance meds, such as advair and/or montelukast
  • Air filter -- Coway 1512 is good value for money especially if it's on sale, but it's most effective when run at full output and then it screams like a jet engine. Their bigger model is better at clearing a big room quietly. If you don't have brand name air purifier money you can get furnace filters and tape them them to a box fan -- this has become popular especially for wildfire areas recently. Easy to find tutorials online
  • Mask (N95/KN95 if possible) when going outside if air quality is poor or pollen/spores fuck you up.
  • If cold air is a trigger, a mask will help with this as well, as will a "buff" type neck/face covering or a scarf. Prior to the pandemic, I relied heavily on merino wool buffs when cycling in cold weather to prevent the air temps from zapping my lungs
  • If you ever get particularly bad attacks, it's very good to have a nebulizer and liquid albuterol in addition to your albuterol inhaler. The nebulizer is what they will normally do for you first if you have to go to the ER, so having one handy can be good in rough asthma situations.
