OP was shared on my TL and I read the post and comments but can't tell what the inciting incident was or even who the original parties are from it. I don't want to jump in and demand receipts, I just don't know whether this is something I should have a reaction to without knowing what it's actually about. Apparently it happened in the global feed but I check that intermittently.

tl;dr OP states cohost banned gf for posting jokes about being black because a white person found it uncomfortable, replies from other user claim the issue is block evasion, OP's rejoinder is that the same behavior is that same behavior is moderated differently for different (white/black) users.

I swear I'm not trying to make new discourse, but I try to be aware of issues around moderation and race, and I don't want to contribute to a general culture of not talking about the whiteness of lefty online spaces.

in reply to @kukkurovaca's post:

i saw the original posts and the person was being weirdly antagonistic, both ambiently and towards a stranger who made a post they found mock-worthy i guess. i blocked them and almost reported them myself because it seemed like they were dead set on starting fights on like their second day on the website. and this impression had nothing to do with race — i couldn't even tell if they were white or black because they'd separately posted saying they were both, in similarly ironic tones.

yeah, same on all counts. it was like... really petty, low insults, too? like. stuff i would not read as "just joking" especially if you were just blocked by someone

yeah they were just bizarrely hostile towards someone they didn't seem to know at all, just for fun, and posted it into the same tags so everyone could see they were doing it?? like genuinely someone whose attention i would not want

so uh. seeing this framed as "because she's black" is fucking bewildering to me
