in reply to @kukkurovaca's post:

i want to be able to fab a PCB of my own design, within whatever shape they supply, solder on whatever switches they use and be good to go. imo nothing less really counts as modular (and of course they have a marketplace so not everyone has to be a designer).

i never want to use rowstag again if i can help it, but i think ortho on a laptop (or non-split in general) forces you to turn your wrists in a bad way. at least with rowstag my wrists can angle.

but what i really want is colstag with hands separated as much as possible, keys pointed towards my shoulders not my chin, and of course a trackpoint 😈

Yeah every time I think through what would make sense for me to eventually replace my laptop with, it feels like the actual practical solution is something like a windows tablet, since I have plenty of keyboards, including very portable ones, that I can type on happily. Or a steamdeck.

I hardly ever type like that, but I have multiple unisplits including a couple of Reviung41 style boards and the world's fanciest Ristretto, and I'm sure at least one of those could be pressed into couch service if needed. Maybe.

(If I did a lot of computing in that position I would probably try to figure out like a portable lap desk of some kind.)

god, what was that one weird 30% unisplit that had the halves at like a 90 degree angle because it was meant to be used right next to your body?
