lol I got a beard trimmer and just went with whatever wirecutter says, and, it seems fine (haven't used it yet) but it's one of the very few times I've ever had feelings about an unboxing experience

There's a plastic tray in the box with recesses for the trimmer itself and like three attachments, and then there's about twenty attachments and a mesh bag underneath that.

The tray has to slide out the top to be removed.

Of the many things in this package, only the trimmer itself is secured to the tray.

So, when you remove it from the package, there is no way to avoid dumping between five and twenty small plastic objects all over the floor.

Also, this doesn't happen all at once, so you end up sliding it out, a bunch of stuff falls, then you, like, try to hold it a different way while sliding it out, and a bunch of stuff falls again, until you just give up and yeet it and then pick little plastic things off your floor for five minutes.

it's been kind of fun growing an enormous-for-me beard lately, and it does make my face look slightly better probably?

I have mixed, but tepid feelings about it genderwise, which are in line with my overall extremely tepid feelings about gender.1

On a practical basis, it does make my face look somewhat better. Overall better design aesthetics. However, sometimes I end up eating it, and that's really annoying. But mostly, a large beard is a nighmare for mask fitment, and I might have to be indoors more often, so I need to either remove this thing or at least reduce it to a more manageable size for mask usage.

  1. I have previously joked that my pronouns are meh/mehm. I'm extremely, "it's fine, whatever, I guess" about genders as re: myself.

this is very funny to me.

(Actually what happened I guess is that somebody put a big chart of beards on shutterstock and then CDC grabbed it and put check marks next to the good ones.

i've also grown out a giant pandemic beard and am a little sad that i'd have to shave it if i went indoors more often. as things stand i just figure that even a 10% worse N95 is still pretty good and just limit time/frequency/group size inside with others
