I don't mean this in a "users are entitled" way, I just mean, like, you barely know this site, why are you so attached to it, and how do you claim to know what it is or should be? I was on a lemmy instance that I picked basically at random from instances that were allowing registrations, and while it was still at most weeks old, people were ready to have BIG, novel-length flame wars about the nature of the instance and who it was for.1 C'mon guys, the umbilical cord hasn't been cut yet; how would you know any of that?
Very similar vibes, usually to lesser extent though, on most platforms and (in the case of federation) many instances. It feels like folks find something that isn't totally broken and immediately project all their hopes and fears on to it, then plant their flag based on that and try to defend what the platform "is" against those who want to "change" it. (Even in cases where the math doesn't add up at all in terms of account age; extremely common on Mastodon.)

An underlying issue was an admin who didn't want to make actual decisions about key moderation issues, and instead wanted the users to do a bunch of faux democracy gamesmanship; needless to say, I would not recommend that instance.
