Hello everyone!

It appears that the Shinigami Eyes extension, which marks social media accounts as trans friendly or unfriendly through group moderation is now active!

thanks Liam, we know you were offering this in a spirit of trying to help.

we feel like we should weigh in to point out that the developer of this extension has a long history of ignoring and burying feedback from the trans community. we consider it to have been harmful to queer community on other platforms, and we expect that if people here were to get in the habit of using it, it would be harmful here as well.

it's also architected in a way that makes it very difficult to prove that any particular person was added to the list intentionally, thus making it quite difficult to produce any sort of accountability to the community it claims to serve.

we're still chewing on how to turn our fragmented thoughts about it that we originally wrote in the birdsite into a post over here, but meanwhile, the short explanation is that we consider this to be a form of gossip behind people's backs.

for anyone wondering whether such a thing, even though it's unsubstantiated gossip without context, could have good effects, until we get our own thoughts together we refer you to this essay by @shel about the Jewish concept of "lashon hara".
